INCONSIDERATE (2)

Another example of inconsiderate parking as well as potentially damaging the footpath. Why not point out to visitors that there is no need to park on the pavement?

EXPENSIVE

Many drains/sewers in Eynsham are unadopted by the water company and any repair cost has to be met by the local residents. A few years ago the sewers collapsed on John Lopes Road as a consequence of vehicles parking on the pavements at the Mill Street end. This led to effluent coming up into the living rooms! The repair cost of £2000 had to be met by residents of that area.

I would hate to see bollards on every single pavement in Eynsham and let's hope we don’t have to go down this route. Unfortunately this was the only solution to the problems in John Lopes Road but it has been successful and maybe more are needed.

AMAZING!

Yes, this car really is parked across the footway, on a busy corner, on a double yellow line. How selfish can you get?

INCONSIDERATE

I believe that bollards are required in Newland Street (particularly adjacent to the "White Hart") as this is the worst example in the village of selfish parking. Vehicles are frequently parked almost against the walls of the houses and even able pedestrians are not given space to pass.

ILLEGAL (2)

Just down from Evenlode DIY on High Street, a roofing company has had scaffolding constructed which completely blocks the pavement. It is normal in such circumstances to cone off an area of road to create a walkway for pedestrians but this has not been done. I suspect a traffic order may be required to do this so they haven't bothered.

ILLEGAL

I understand that it is against the law for HGVs to park on any pavement. It is also illegal for anyone to obstruct the footpath. Maybe just two wheels on the curb does not obstruct the footpath to any serious degree but it is also illegal to drive on the footpath. In order to have parked there the driver must have driven on to it.

DANGEROUS

Very often there is no room for pedestrians, wheelchair users, parents with buggies etc to pass and therefore the individual has to go into the road. Elderly people may also have difficulty stepping into the road. The dangers created by this are obvious and it is very unfair on the pedestrian.

DAMAGING

Continual pavement parking damages our pavements. We know damaged pavements are an issue in Eynsham and it seems to be nationwide. Several radio programmes have highlighted the bad state of our pavements and the cost to the ratepayer, not only of the repairs but the compensation paid to people who trip over. I want to see councillors, highways people, police etc making a concerted effort to get the message over to drivers that parking on pavements is just not acceptable. It affects us all.
